Our Board
Ted Durham, President, CEO and Director- Mr. Durham is a graduate of the University of North Carolina-Greensboro with a degree in Business and Economics. Mr. Durham has more than 25 years in the banking industry, holding positions of various responsibilities throughout North Carolina and the surrounding states. A North Carolina native, Mr. Durham’s community and civic involvement both current and past includes: Graduate of Leadership Asheville, Mission Children’s Hospital Endowment Advisory Committee, Past President and current member of Rotary, Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Past President Brevard Chamber of Commerce and Past Trustee Blue Ridge Community College. Church activities include Deacon, Capital Campaigns, and Finance Committees, Past Chairman Economic Advisory Board, Past Director of Committee 100 to name a few.
Bruce Jones, Chairman and Director. Mr. Jones currently serves as Chairman, President & CEO of Community Bank of Rowan (Salisbury, North Carolina) and also serves as President of the Southeast Region for Capitol Bancorp., Ltd. Mr. Jones is a graduate of Appalachian State University with a degree in Business Administration, Banking and Finance and has been in the banking industry for more than 30 years. His community and civic involvement includes: Salisbury/Rowan Economic Development Commission Chairman, Rowan Regional Medical Center Executive Board Member, Rowan Jobs Initiative Board Member and Treasurer, and Salisbury Rotary Club.
Joe Brumit, Director. Mr. Brumit was the previous owner and operator of 33 Arby’s stores in Western North Carolina. He is currently President of Brumit Development Company which is involved in real estate development. Mr. Brumit has lived in the Asheville area since 1988 and is very involved in the community through charitable, non-profit and civic organizations, including: United Way, Mission Hospitals, Asheville Chamber, Western North Carolina Foundation, Appalachian State University, UNC-Asheville, and Western Carolina University.
Kerry Friedman, Director. Mr. Friedman is a partner in the law firm of Patla, Strauss, Robinson & Moore, P.A. which is one of the oldest and largest law firms in Asheville; his major emphasis in the firm is Business Organizations, Tax and Compensation Planning. A native of Asheville, Mr. Friedman’s civic involvement includes: Past President and member-Legal Services of North Carolina, Chairman of Community Care Partners and United Way, Western North Carolina Community Foundation, YMCA, Western North Carolina Jewish Federation Board, and Trustee of Jewish Center Foundation.
William Mance, Director. Mr. Mance recently retired from Mission Hospitals, having served as the Vice President for Human Resources. He is and has been involved in numerous organizations including Past Chairman of the Mountain Area Workforce Development Board, member of the Asheville-Buncombe Economic Development Coalition, Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, The Self-Help Credit Union, Trustee of the Episcopal Diocese of Western North Carolina, Northwestern North Carolina Goodwill Industries and a disaster volunteer for the American Red Cross.
Keith Maxwell, Director. Dr. Maxwell is the Senior Partner of Southeastern Sports Medicine, PLLC and is a Board Certified Orthopedic Spine Surgeon as well as general orthopedics. Dr. Maxwell was the first Board Certified Spine Surgeon in North Carolina. An Asheville native, Dr. Maxwell is also an Assistant Consultant Professor of Surgery at Duke University Medical Center and is Chief of Surgery at Park Ridge Hospital.
Charles Owen III, Director. Mr. Owen is a native of Asheville and was the President of Owen Manufacturing, a large manufacturing concern for over three generations. He is currently President of Fletcher Warehousing Company which is involved in real estate development. Mr. Owen’s charitable, non-profit and civic involvement includes: UNC Health Care System Board, North Carolina Citizens for Business and Industry (NCCBI) board, Inception Micro Angel Fund, and Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation of North Carolina.
Diana Pickering, Director. Ms. Pickering is Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Biltmore Company (Biltmore Estate, Inn on Biltmore, Biltmore Wine and other subsidiaries). An Asheville native, her current and past civic involvement include: Eblen Charities Board, North Carolina Zoological Society, Asheville Chamber, Biltmore Village Historic Museum, Carolina Day School, Mana Food Bank, and the Asheville Symphony Orchestra.
